Cruel Seas. Kriegsmarine. M1939 Flottentorpedoboot "Elbing".

Este model aparece en el suplemento de "Close Quarters" aunque por desgracia Warlord no ha sacado el modelo a escala. Personalmente, siempre me ha parecido un diseño, como concepto, muy interesante y de una estetica muy atractiva.

This model appears in the "Close Quarters" supplement although unfortunately Warlord has not released the scale model. Personally, I have always found a design, as a concept, very interesting and aesthetically very attractive.

El modelo.

He visto algunas trasnformaciones del modelo que tiene Heller a 1:400. Este modelo es tentador, pero al no ser "waterline" he querido ahorrarme el tener que cortar el casco (con consecuencias siempre imprevisibles).

Tras mucho buscar, no hay nada en escala 1:300 o 1:350 para este buque, salvo un "proxy" en Wargaming 3D.  Que entiendo s una impresion en resina. Por desgracia no he visto ningún impresor de 3D en Europa que le fabrique. Ya que con algo de dedicación, masilla y platicar, se podria hacer un "proxy" mejor que el del fabricante.

I have seen some transformations of the model that Heller has at 1:400. This model is tempting, but as it is not "waterline" I wanted to save myself having to cut the hull (with always unpredictable consequences).

After searching a lot, there is nothing in 1:300 or 1:350 scale for this ship, except for a "proxy" in Wargaming 3D. What I understand is a resin impression. Unfortunately I have not seen any 3D printer in Europe that manufactures it. Because with some dedication, putty and plasticard, you could make a "proxy" better than the manufacturer's one.

Syborg 3D Printing si imprime el modelo desde UK, pero no el de resina, sino una impresion de filamento, que es bastante peor en cuanto a terminado. Al final, y a falta de otra cosa, lo he comprado.

Syborg 3D Printing does print the model from the UK, but not the resin one, but a filament print, which is much worse in terms of the model finishing. At the end, and lacking any other option, I bought it.

Si os fijais en el castillo de proa, queda muy evidente que la superficie no es nada lisa, todos esos acanalados demerecen bastante. Y estan por todo el modelo. Al fin y al cabo es un "proxy" para jugar, pero el modelo de resina al menos en ese aspecto es mejor ya que las superficies son lisas. Adicionalmente, viene en dos partes con lo que casi inevitablemente, aunque se peguen, se vera claramente que no es una superficie uniforme.

If you look at the forecastle, it is very evident that the surface is not smooth at all, all those grooves are quite disturbing and they are all over the model. At the end of the day it is a "proxy" to play with, but the resin model at least in that aspect is better look, since the surfaces are smooth. Additionally, it comes in two parts. So almost inevitably, once stick together, will be clear that the hull it is not a uniform surface.

El modelo, por donde empezar...

The model, from where to start...

(1) Para mi, el puente es lo peor porque los laterales del puente son una prolongacion del casco, muy característicos de estos torpederos, y en el modelo hay un puente centrado en la linea longitudianal del casco que no tiene nada que ver con el diseño del buque...

(2) La obra muerta es muy corta, tiene la misma altura que las Schnellboote de Warlord.

(3) El tamaño de los cañones es desproporcionadamente grandes.

(4) La chimenea junto al puente esta muy adelantada

(5) Poco espacio a popa tras la pieza de artillería.

(6) Poco espacio entr el puente y la pieza de artilleria de proa.

(1) For me, the bridge is the worst because the sides of the bridge are an extension of the hull, very characteristic of these torpedo boats, and in the model there is a bridge centered on the center line of the hull that has nothing to do with the ship design...

(2) The freeboard is very short, it is the same height as Warlord's Schnellboote.

(3) The size of the guns is disproportionately large.

(4) The funnel next to the bridge is in a very forward position

(5) Little space aft behind the stern gun.

(6) Little space between the bridge and the prow gune.

Semana 1

Parte superior del puente fuera.

Rehacer el puente con plasticard, levantando los laterales hasta la altura del puente principal

Aumentar la obra muerta con dos laminas de plasticar de 1,5 mm cada una (como un 30% mas).

Cubrir los acanalados de la proa para que quede una superficie mas lisa.

Retirar la estructura que trae el modelo tras la segunda chimenea.

Pegar las dos partes y empezar a rellenar con masilla verde y platicar las partes que no ajustan bien.

Poner las piezas de artillería. Afortunadamente tenia 4 10.5 cm del "Kriegsmarine Weapons Pack" que vende Warlord para "Cruel Seas". Son un aproximadamente 1/3 mas pequeñas y dan un aire mas proporcionado al modelo. Para la pieza de proa, he elevado sobre la cubierta la plataforma donde se instala la pieza.

Top of the bridge outside.

Redo the bridge with plasticard, raising the sides up to the height of the main bridge

Increase the dfreeboard with two plastic sheets of 1.5 mm each (about 30% more).

Cover the grooves of the bow so that there is a smoother surface.

Remove the structure that the model brings after the second funnel.

Glue the two parts and start filling with green putty and plasticard the parts that do not fit well.

Set the guns. Fortunately I had 4 10.5 cm from the "Kriegsmarine Weapons Pack" that Warlord sells for "Cruel Seas". They are approximately 1/3 smaller and give the model a more proportionate air. For the bow piece, I have raised the platform where the gun is installed over the deck.

Construyendo un puente que se parezca (mas o menos). He añadido el puente de mando y una direccion de tiro sobre el puente con dos voladizos para instalar los cañones dobles de 20 mm.
